Adacel(Tetnus, Diphtheria and Pertussis)

Pertussis (whooping cough) is a highly communicable infection of the respiratory tract and remains endemic in many countries. Recently there has been outbreak of whooping cough in Fraser Valley and surrounding areas. Adults, who have not previously received a dose of acellular pertussis vaccine, should receive combined Tdap vaccine rather than the diphtheria-tetanus (Td) booster dose. Adolescents and adults account for more than half of reported cases and the disease is often milder than in infants and children. Adults often require Tetanus and diphtheria booster prior to travel and a pre-travel consult is an excellent opportunity to get a Tdap vaccine.
